Day 01: Chandigarh to Patnitop

Distance: 431 km | Drive Time: 9 to 10 Hours

The Experience: Your journey begins with a long but rewarding drive. Leaving Chandigarh, you’ll hit the NH44, passing through the lush fields of Punjab before entering Jammu. As you ascend toward Patnitop, the air cools significantly.

 

 

Highlight: 

Chenani-Nashri Tunnel: Experience India’s longest road tunnel (9.2 km), which bypasses treacherous snowy stretches and hair-pin bends.

 

 

Arrival in Patnitop: A hilltop tourist location offering stunning views of the Chenab basin. Spend your evening walking through the pine forests or visiting the Nag Temple.
 

 

Day 02: Patnitop to Pahalgam

Distance: 140 km | Drive Time: 4–5 Hours

The Experience :  The drive from Patnitop to Pahalgam, the "Valley of Shepherds," is breathtaking. You’ll wind along the Lidder River, which sparkles in shades of icy blue.

 

 

Sightseeing in Pahalgam : 

Betaab Valley: Named after the Bollywood hit film, this valley is a lush green expanse surrounded by snow-capped peaks.

 

 

Aru Valley: A scenic village known for its meadows and as a base camp for treks to the Kolahoi Glacier.

 

 

Baisaran: Often called "Mini Switzerland," accessible via a short pony ride through dense cedar woods.

 

Day 03: Srinagar Local Sightseeing

Distance: 90 km | Drive Time: 2.5 Hours (from Pahalgam)

The Experience: Head to the summer capital of J&K. Srinagar is a blend of historical grandeur and tranquil water bodies.

 

Must-Visit Spots : 

Shalimar Bagh : 

 

 

Nishat Bagh : 

Mughal Gardens: Explore the terraced lawns of Shalimar Bagh and  Nishat Bagh, built by Emperor Jahangir.

 

 

Shankaracharya Temple: Located atop a hill, it offers a bird’s-eye view of the entire city and Dal Lake.

 

 

Shikara Ride: End your day with a sunset boat ride on Dal Lake, watching the floating vegetable markets and houseboats glide by.

 

 

Day 04: Gulmarg Sightseeing

Distance: 50 km | Drive Time: 2 Hours

 

 

Highlight:

The Gulmarg Gondola: 

 

 

Apharwat Peak: 

The Gulmarg Gondola: A two-stage cable car ride that takes you to Apharwat Peak ($13,780$ ft). The view from the top is unparalleled, overlooking the LOC and distant Himalayan giants.

 

 

St. Mary’s Church:

Activity: Enjoy a walk through the meadows or visit the historic St. Mary’s Church.

 


Day 05: Sonmarg Sightseeing

Distance: 80 km | Drive Time: 3 Hours

The Experience: Known as the "Meadow of Gold," Sonmarg is the gateway to Ladakh. The landscape here is more rugged and alpine, characterized by the towering Thajiwas Glacier.

Key Sights: Thajiwas Glacier: Hire a pony or trek up to the base of the glacier to see frozen snow even in peak summer.

Evening: Return to Srinagar for a final night in a traditional Kashmiri Houseboat.

 

 

Day 06: Srinagar to Chandigarh Drop

Distance: 580 km | Drive Time: 13–15 Hours

The Experience: This is the longest leg of the journey. Start your day as early as 5:00 AM to navigate the mountain passes and reach Chandigarh by late night.
